The 4-year-old preview shows the same imagined child at age 4. After your newborn portrait is ready, you can unlock it once and see a toddler version: longer face, more hair, a preschooler’s grin. It’s a one-time purchase, $4.99 in the US App Store.
Who it’s for and what it uses
It’s for parents who looked at the newborn portrait and immediately wondered “and then?” What the preview starts from depends on how you made the newborn:
- From both parents’ photos. If you used the parents’ photo portrait, the preview uses those photos to imagine your child at 4.
- From the newborn portrait. If you started from an ultrasound to baby portrait, the app ages up the newborn portrait it made.
Either way, it’s the same child, a few years on.
How it works
- Make a newborn portrait from your scan or your photos.
- Switch to the age-4 view on the result screen.
- Unlock the preview once. Prices are shown in the App Store before you pay.
- The toddler portrait renders. Save it, share it or keep it next to the newborn in your gallery.
Tips for the best result
- Start from a good newborn portrait. A clear 3D or 4D scan, or two well-lit parent photos, gives the AI more to carry forward.
- Use your parents’ photos if you have them. Two real faces give the preview more to blend than an aged-up drawing.
- Answer the “curious about” question. If you picked “growing up”, that’s exactly what the preview is for.
Why faces change so much by 4
A newborn’s face is round, with a small nose, full cheeks and often puffy eyes after birth. Over the next few years the face lengthens, the nose bridge develops and hair grows in, sometimes in a different shade from birth. MedlinePlus Genetics notes that light hair often darkens as children grow older, especially in people of European descent. That’s why a newborn portrait and a 4-year-old portrait can look like cousins rather than twins. Our timeline of when babies’ features change covers this month by month.
What it can’t do
- It doesn’t predict how your child will look. Growth, hair, teeth and weight vary in ways no app can know.
- It stops at 4. No teenager, no adult and no video.
- It isn’t a growth or health tool. Questions about your child’s development belong with your pediatrician.
